Chassis Number Locations

Driver’s Side B-Pillar (Door Jamb Label)

• Where to look: Open the driver’s door and look at the lower section of the B-pillar for a black manufacturer sticker/label with white text (VIN included).
• Access: Easy. No tools needed; the label is exposed with the door fully open and the contrast is excellent.
• Note: This guide is written for LHD cars (left-hand drive), as shown in the reference vehicle.
• Tip: For the fastest, mistake-free capture, scan it directly with your phone camera instead of typing the characters by hand.

Dashboard / Windshield (Lower Corner)

• Where to look: Stand outside the car and look through the front windshield at the lower driver’s-side corner, where the VIN plate is visible on the dashboard.
• Access: Glare/reflection risk. Bright sky reflections can wash out the characters unless you change angle or shade the area.
• Note: On LHD cars, this is typically easiest to see from outside on the left (driver) side of the windshield.

Engine Bay VIN Stamping (Right Front Shock Tower)

• Where to look: Pop the hood and go to the right-front shock tower (passenger side on LHD). The VIN is stamped into the painted metal near the coolant expansion tank.
• Access: Moderate. It’s deeper in the engine bay and may be dusty/greasy—wipe it clean before reading.
• Note: Use “left/right” as vehicle orientation (as you drive it). This stamping is on the right side in the example.
