Where is the VIN number in Audi A7 (C8)?

This guide covers the VIN (chassis number) locations on the Audi A7 (C8) produced between 2018–2019, including the quickest scan points and the stamped “match-check” location under the hood.

Chassis Number Locations

1) Windshield (VIN plate)

• Where to look: Stand outside the car and look through the lower corner of the windshield on the left side for LHD vehicles. The VIN sits on the black ceramic band at the base of the glass.
• Access: Generally easy to see, but glare, snow, or dirt on the exterior glass can block it.
• Note: Left/right in this guide is from the driver’s seat perspective (direction of travel). On RHD cars the visible corner can differ, so if you don’t see it on one side, check the other lower corner.
• Tip: If reflections make characters hard to read, capture it instantly instead of writing it down—use the camera OCR on ScanVin to scan the windshield VIN cleanly from an angle.

2) Door Jamb / B-Pillar Sticker

• Where to look: Open the front passenger door (LHD) and check the lower section of the B-pillar for a black sticker with white text.
• Access: Low difficulty—flat surface and high-contrast print usually makes it easy to read.
• Note: On many Audi/VW models, this sticker is typically on the passenger-side B-pillar. On RHD cars it may still remain on the passenger side, but if you don’t find it, check the opposite B-pillar as well.
• Tip: This is one of the best scan targets—use your phone to scan the door sticker VIN in one shot so you don’t transpose characters.

3) Engine Bay VIN Stamp (Strut Tower)

• Where to look: Pop the hood and go to the front-right strut tower (vehicle right)—that’s the left side when you’re facing the open hood. The VIN is stamped into the metal near the red positive battery terminal cover.
• Access: Moderate to high difficulty. On some A7 trims the stamp can be obscured by a plastic rain deflector/cover—you’ll need to lift the pliable plastic trim near the fender edge to reveal the stamped characters. A flashlight helps because stamped metal is low-contrast.
• Note: This stamped VIN is the one you use to physically match the car (anti-tamper check) if you suspect cloning or paperwork issues.

4) MMI / Infotainment VIN (Digital)

• Where to look: On the infotainment screen, navigate through settings to the vehicle information page (commonly Settings > General > Version Info, wording can vary by firmware).

• Note: Treat this as a verification/reference VIN—always confirm against a physical VIN (windshield, sticker, or stamped metal) for buying/identity checks.
