Where is the VIN number in Ford Edge (II/III [2016-2017])?

This guide covers the VIN number locations on the Ford Edge (II/III) built between 2016–2017, including the easy-to-see VIN and the hidden chassis stamping used for verification.

Chassis Number Locations

1) Windshield (Dashboard) VIN

• Where to look: From outside the vehicle, look at the lower corner of the windshield on the left (driver’s) side. The VIN sits on a plate in a cutout on top of the dashboard trim.
• Access: Easy—no tools. Glare, reflections, or a dirty windshield can block it.
• Note: All reference footage is LHD; this is the standard “quick check” VIN.
• Tip: If reflections wash out the numbers, use your phone to capture it instantly with the free VIN scanner instead of trying to read it through glare.

2) Driver’s Door Jamb / B-Pillar Sticker

• Where to look: Open the driver’s door and locate the white manufacturer certification label on the driver-side B-pillar (door jamb)—it lists the VIN plus tire/weight info.
• Access: Easy—good lighting, no tools. The sticker can fade or get scratched.
• Note: On LHD cars, this is normally on the driver-side jamb area.
• Tip: If the print is faded, use the ScanVin.app VIN reader to scan it cleanly (and grab the VIN without transcription mistakes).

3) Floor VIN (Under Carpet Flap, Hidden Chassis Stamp)

• Where to look: In the front footwell floor, lift the carpet and find a pre-cut flap. Under it, the VIN is stamped directly into the floor pan.
  Commonly on the passenger side for LHD vehicles, but check the driver-side footwell if you don’t see the flap.
• Access: Moderate—you’ll need to pull/lift the carpet flap. It’s dark down there; a flashlight helps.
• Note: This is a strong “verification” VIN because it’s stamped into the chassis.
• Tip: Because the footwell is shadowy, turn on Flashlight and scan the stamped VIN with OCR instead of trying to read it at an awkward angle.

4) Engine Bay (Shock Tower / Fender Apron Stamp)

• Where to look: With the hood open, check the passenger-side shock tower / fender apron area, typically near/forward of the coolant reservoir. Look for a stamped number in the metal.
• Access: Moderate—open the hood and be ready to wipe dirt/grease off the stamping. Some cars may have plastic trim or components partially obscuring the view.
• Note: This is a secondary check; it’s not as quick as the windshield or door label.
• Tip: If the stamp is dirty or low-contrast, wipe it and use High Contrast scanning to pull the characters out clearly.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting

• Windshield VIN unreadable: Glare and reflections are common—shade the glass with your hand, clean the outside, and change your viewing angle.
• Floor VIN is hard to see: The footwell is dark and the stamp can sit under carpet fuzz—lift the flap fully and use a flashlight to light the stamping straight-on.
• Door jamb sticker isn’t “proof” by itself: Stickers can be replaced or damaged—always cross-check the VIN against the windshield VIN and the stamped chassis VIN when buying or inspecting.
