Chassis Number Locations

Certification Label (B-Pillar)

• Where to look: Open the driver’s door and look on the driver’s side B-pillar, low on the pillar. You’ll see a black/white adhesive certification label with the VIN, build date, and tire info.
• Access: Low difficulty. No tools needed; clean, high-contrast print.
• Note: Written for LHD (EU/US) vehicles as shown in the videos.

Floor Chassis Stamping (Frame Number) – Rear Passenger Footwell (Right Side)

• Where to look: In the rear right passenger footwell, lift the carpet/floor mat and find a rectangular plastic access flap marked “FRAME NUMBER”. Pry the flap up to reveal the VIN/number stamped into the chassis cross-member.
• Access: Low/Medium difficulty. You must move mats/carpet and pry up a plastic panel. It can be dark and the stamping can be low-contrast.
• Note: The stamping shown is on the right side of the vehicle body. On LHD, that’s typically the rear passenger-side footwell—don’t rename it “driver side.”

Windshield VIN Plate/Tag (Lower Corner)

• Where to look: View through the windshield at the bottom corner on the driver’s side (standard visible VIN plate behind the glass).

• Note: Best checked from outside the vehicle; match it to the door label and floor stamping.
• Tip: If glare is fighting you, capture the VIN instantly with the VIN scanner so you don’t transpose characters while reading through glass.

Engine Number (Engine Block)

• Where to look: In the engine bay, locate the stamped code on a machined flat area on the front face of the engine block, slightly right of center (when facing the engine), near the transmission bell housing junction (example shown: L15BE...).
• Access: High difficulty. It’s deep in the bay and often obscured by hoses/piping and grime; you’ll need strong light and the right angle.
• Note: This is an engine number, not the primary consumer VIN location—but it’s useful during deeper inspections.
