Chassis Number Locations

1) Left B-pillar (door jamb VIN label)

• Where to look: Open the left-side front door and look on the lower section of the B-pillar (the vertical pillar between the front and rear doors). You’ll see a black/blue sticker/plate with the VIN plus weight/tyre/manufacturing data.
• Access: Usually easy. The label can be faded, scratched, or dirty, and because it’s vertical you may need to steady your hands to capture it clearly.
• Note: This label appears on the left side of the vehicle body. On LHD cars (common in Europe), that’s typically the driver’s side; on RHD cars it may be the passenger side.

2) Engine bay firewall/cowl (stamped under plastic flap)

• Where to look: In the engine bay, go to the center of the rear bulkhead/firewall, just below the windshield/cowl area. Locate a rectangular plastic flap (often embossed “FRAME NUMBER”) and lift it up—the VIN/chassis number is stamped into the metal panel underneath.
• Access: Harder than the door label. This area often gets dusty/dirty, and you’ll be fighting shadows from the hood and cowl. You also need to hold the flap open while reading/scanning.
• Note: Same physical spot across markets; the big difference is lighting and access comfort rather than LHD/RHD placement.

3) Windshield VIN plate (dashboard corner)

• Where to look: From outside the car, check the bottom corner of the windshield on the driver’s side, where the VIN plate is visible through the glass on top of the dashboard.

• Note: This is the fastest check when the plate is clean and the sun angle cooperates.

• Note: This is commonly found under the front right seat on the vehicle shown. For LHD cars, don’t assume “driver side”—check the front floor area (commonly passenger side for LHD), and if not found, check the other side.
