Chassis Number Locations

1) Under the windshield (dashboard VIN plate)

• Where to look: Stand outside the vehicle and look through the lower driver-side corner of the windshield. You’ll see a metal VIN plate sitting at the base of the glass where the dashboard meets the windshield (near the cowl).
• Access: Easy to reach, but glare and sky reflections can wash the characters out and make it hard to read.
• Note: Works the same for LHD/RHD—what changes is which seat is the driver seat, not the VIN plate position at the glass corner.

• Access: Usually the easiest VIN to access; the main issue is wear/fading on older or heavily used vehicles.
• Note: On RHD cars this label is on the right-side front door opening (driver’s door), not the left.
• Tip: If the printed text is faded, use the VIN scanner to capture the barcode/VIN cleanly instead of guessing worn characters.

3) Under the front passenger seat (floor pan VIN stamping under carpet flap)

• Where to look: From the rear row, open the rear door behind the front passenger seat area and locate the pre-cut carpet flap on the floor (it may be hidden under a second mat). Lift the flap to reveal the VIN stamped into the metal floor pan, sometimes painted body color.
• Access: This takes a little effort: you may need to slide the front seat forward, peel back a stiff carpet flap, and deal with poor lighting/shadows. Aftermarket rubber mats often cover the flap.
• Note: Orientation matters. In LHD vehicles it’s commonly accessed behind the front right seat (passenger side). On RHD vehicles, it may be accessed behind the front left seat—so if you don’t find it on one side, check the opposite side under the corresponding front seat area.

• Access: Hardest spot—cramped, dark, and partially obstructed, so getting a straight-on phone photo is tricky.
• Note: Use this as a secondary confirmation point if needed—don’t start here unless other locations are missing or questionable.
• Tip: If you can’t get your head and phone lined up, scan it at an angle with high-contrast capture to avoid misreading faint or partially hidden characters.
