Chassis Number Locations

1) Right B-Pillar (Type Plate)

• Where to look: Open the front passenger door (LHD) and look at the lower section of the B-pillar (the center pillar between the front and rear doors). You’ll see a black sticker/plate with the VIN plus weight information.

  3. Lift/pry up the plastic cover to reveal the VIN stamped into the steel chassis.
• Access: Medium. You must move the mat and open the cover. The footwell is often dark, and you’ll be working at an awkward angle.
• Note: Don’t assume “driver side.” On many vehicles this stamp is commonly on the right-side front footwell; if you can’t find it there, check the opposite front footwell as well (market and build differences happen).
• Tip: Because this area is shadowy, use a steady light and use the VIN scanner with flashlight + OCR to capture the stamped characters cleanly.

3) Windshield / Dashboard VIN (outside view)

• Where to look: Look through the windshield at the bottom-left corner (driver side on LHD cars), on the dashboard near the A-pillar. The VIN is visible through the glass.
• Access: Easy, but reflections/glare from the windshield can make it hard to read—especially in direct sun.
• Note: On RHD cars, this windshield VIN is typically on the opposite side of the dash compared to LHD.
• Tip: If reflections wash out the digits, capture it instantly with the VIN reader instead of trying to transcribe it through glass.
