Where is the VIN number in Opel Astra K (K [2016-2020])?

This guide shows you where to locate the VIN/chassis number on the Opel Astra K (K) produced between 2016 and 2020, including the quickest sticker check and the stamped chassis VIN.

Chassis Number Locations

Driver’s door pillar / B-pillar VIN sticker (door jamb)

• Where to look: Open the front door and check the B-pillar door jamb for a black manufacturer sticker (white text). It lists the VIN, plus paint/weights info.
• Access: Very easy access and usually very readable. The only time it’s a problem is if the label is torn, painted over, or replaced after body repairs.
• Note: On many LHD Astra K cars, this label is commonly found on the front passenger-side B-pillar (right side of the vehicle).
• Tip: If you want to avoid mistyping a long VIN from the label, scan it directly with your phone so the characters are captured automatically.

Front footwell floor (under carpet flap)

• Where to look: Look on the front footwell floor, directly in front of the front seat. Find the pre-cut rectangular flap in the carpet and lift it to reveal the VIN stamped into the metal.
• Access: Generally easy, but it’s down in the footwell, often dirty, and the stamping can be hard to read without good light. You may need to brush/scrub the metal lightly.
• Note: This is commonly on the passenger side for LHD vehicles, but check the driver-side footwell if you don’t find it there (RHD vehicles swap sides).
• Tip: Because it’s dark and low down, use ScanVin.app’s flashlight + OCR scan to read the stamped characters without fighting shadows.

Windshield VIN (dashboard corner)

• Where to look: From outside the car, look through the bottom corner of the windshield on the driver’s side. The VIN is visible on the dash through the glass.
• Access: Easy to spot, but glare/reflections (and rain/dirt on the glass) can make it annoying to read or photograph.
• Note: Best checked from outside in daylight, but avoid direct sun reflecting off the glass.
• Tip: If glare is washing out the digits, capture it with your phone using the VIN scanner so you don’t have to manually transcribe it.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting

• Can’t find the carpet flap: Remove any rubber floor mats, feel for the pre-cut rectangle, then pry/lift the flap up with your fingers.
• Stamped VIN is dirty/corroded: Brush and wipe the metal (light scrub) and use a bright flashlight to bring the characters out.
• Sticker VIN doesn’t “prove” the chassis: Door-jamb labels can be damaged or replaced—always confirm the VIN matches the stamped chassis VIN and the registration documents.
