Where is the VIN in the Dacia Duster?

This guide covers VIN/chassis number locations commonly used on the Dacia/Renault Duster platform. (Note: the included video shows an older Renault-badged Duster, but this engine-bay stamp location is commonly used across Duster variants.)

Chassis Number Locations

1) Engine Bay – Right Shock Absorber/Strut Tower (Stamped)

• Where to look: Open the hood and go to the right-hand strut/shock absorber tower. The VIN is stamped directly into the metal on the top surface of the tower, next to the coolant reservoir bottle (not a sticker).
• Access: Easy to reach, but expect heavy dust/grime that makes the stamped characters hard to read. Wipe/scrub the flat area and use angled light to make the embossing “pop.” Lighting can be uneven under the hood.
• Note: The source video vehicle is RHD, but the report’s detected location is right side of the vehicle. For LHD cars, still check the right-hand side first (vehicle-right as you sit in it, facing forward).

2) B-Pillar / Door Jamb Manufacturer Label (Sticker)

• Where to look: Check the B-pillar door jamb area for the manufacturer label—commonly on the right-hand side pillar/rear door jamb depending on market/trim.
• Access: Usually clean and well-lit with the door open, but stickers can be scratched, repainted over, or missing on used vehicles.
• Note: This label is great for a quick check, but don’t treat it as the “final word” if it conflicts with the stamped chassis number.

3) Windshield VIN Plate (If Equipped)

• Where to look: Look through the lower corner of the windshield (dashboard area) for a VIN plate/printed VIN (not present on every Duster/market).

Passenger Door B-Pillar (VIN Sticker)

• Where to look: Open the front passenger door and check the lower section of the B-pillar / door jamb. There’s a VIN label sticker with VIN + weight ratings + paint info.
• Access: Very easy. No tools. But stickers can fade, peel, or get painted over after bodywork.
• Note: Written for LHD vehicles; the label is still on the passenger-side door jamb in the examples.

Engine Compartment – Right Front Strut Tower (Stamped VIN)

• Where to look: In the engine bay, locate the top of the right-front suspension strut tower (right side of the car in direction of travel; typically the passenger side on LHD). The VIN is stamped directly into the metal and is visible without removing covers.
• Access: Generally easy, but it may be dusty/dirty and the angle can be tight depending on lighting.
• Note: On LHD models shown, this is on the right side of the engine bay.

Lower Windshield / Dashboard VIN Plate

• Where to look: Look through the bottom corner of the windshield (commonly the driver-side corner). You’ll see a VIN plate under the glass on top of the dashboard.

• Access: Medium difficulty. You may need to slide the seat, move mats, and work in a dark footwell area.
• Note: This one is commonly on the passenger side for LHD vehicles, but check the driver side footwell if not found.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting

• Windshield VIN is hard to read: glare/reflections or debris near the cowl can block the plate. Change viewing angle, shade the glass, or scan from inside the cabin.
