Where is the VIN number in Ford Mustang (VI [2015-2018])?

This guide shows where to find the VIN (chassis number) on the Ford Mustang VI produced between 2015–2018, including the common “hidden” stamped chassis location and the easy-to-scan sticker/plate spots.

Chassis Number Locations

Passenger-side front floor pan (under carpet flap)

• Where to look: Slide the front passenger seat back and look on the floor panel directly under the seat area. Find the pre-cut flap in the carpet, then lift the flap and insulation padding to expose the VIN stamped into the metal floor chassis (often painted in the body color like yellow/red).
• Access: Moderate. The flap is easy to locate, but the footwell is shadowy and the stamped characters can blend in because they’re body-colored.
• Note: This stamp is commonly found on the right-side front floor—on LHD cars this is usually the passenger side, but if you don’t find it there, check the driver-side footwell.
• Tip: Because it’s dark and low-contrast, use your phone light and scan it directly with ScanVin.app’s flashlight + OCR instead of trying to read the stamp by eye.

Door jamb VIN label (B-pillar sticker)

• Where to look: Open the front door and locate the large white manufacturer label on the B-pillar/door jamb (the door latch frame). The VIN is printed there along with tire pressure and weight ratings.
• Access: Low difficulty. High-contrast black text on a white sticker, easy to reach with the door open.
• Note: On LHD Mustangs it’s typically on the driver-side door jamb; on RHD models it may appear on the passenger-side jamb.

VIN plate at the windshield (dashboard corner)

• Where to look: Look through the lower corner of the windshield on the driver’s side, where the dash meets the cowl—there’s a visible VIN plate under the glass.
• Access: Moderate. Easy to see in theory, but reflections/glare and dirty glass can block the view.
• Note: Best checked from outside the car with the steering wheel straight and the glass clean.

Engine bay VIN stamp (strut tower / inner fender apron)

• Where to look: Pop the hood and check the top of the passenger-side strut tower / inner fender apron (right side when you’re facing the engine). The VIN is stamped into the metal.
• Access: Low/Moderate. Usually visible without removing covers, but engine bays can be dusty/greasy and the stamp can be body-colored.
• Note: If the strut tower area is dirty, wipe it before scanning/reading.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting

• “I lifted the carpet flap but can’t read the stamp.” The VIN is often body-colored and sits in a dark footwell—use a flashlight, change your viewing angle, and clean dust off the metal so the characters pop.
• “The engine bay stamp looks dirty or faint.” Scrub lightly with a rag (and a mild cleaner if needed) to remove grime; a dirty stamp can look like missing digits.
• Sticker warning: Door jamb labels can be missing, repainted over, or replaced after bodywork—always cross-check the VIN across at least two locations before buying or registering the car.
