Where is the VIN number in Hyundai i20 (I (PB))?

This guide covers the VIN (vehicle identification number) / chassis number locations on the Hyundai i20 I (PB) produced between 2012–2012, using the most common factory stamping points and label positions.

Chassis Number Locations

B-Pillar Sticker (Driver’s Side)

• Where to look: Open the driver’s door and look at the B-pillar (center pillar/door jamb). You’ll see a black manufacturing label with the VIN plus weight ratings and paint codes.
• Access: Very low difficulty. The label is easy to reach and usually easy to read, but it can fade, peel, or get damaged with age.
• Note: This label is present on both LHD and RHD cars—location is still the B-pillar, just on the driver’s side for that market.
• Tip: If the sticker text is small, just scan it directly with your phone to avoid misreading characters (especially 8/B, 5/S, 0/O).

Front Passenger Floor (Under Seat)

• Where to look: Check the floor panel under the front seat (commonly on the passenger side for LHD vehicles). Slide the seat back, then lift the pre-cut carpet flap to expose the VIN stamped into the metal chassis cross-member.
• Access: Generally low difficulty, but it’s dark under the seat, the carpet flap can be stiff or hidden by mats, and dirt/debris often covers the stamping.
• Note: The reference vehicle is LHD and shows the floor VIN on the right side (passenger side). If you don’t find it there, check the opposite front footwell on your market variant.
• Tip: Use Flashlight + OCR and capture it with the ScanVin.app VIN reader so you don’t have to contort under the seat and write it down by hand.

Dashboard / Windshield (Lower Corner)

• Where to look: Look through the bottom corner of the front windshield on the left side (driver’s side on LHD) near where the dashboard meets the glass/A-pillar area.
• Access: Easy to access, but hard to read because windshield glare/reflections can wash out the characters; exterior dirt/snow can also block visibility.
• Note: Best viewed in ambient light (flashlight against glass can create more glare).
• Tip: If reflections make it unreadable, scan it instantly with your phone to lock the VIN before glare shifts or you transpose characters.

Engine Bay Firewall (Stamped)

• Where to look: Under the hood, inspect the firewall/bulkhead (often near the top edge, sometimes toward the center or passenger side). The VIN may be stamped into the metal, occasionally behind intake/airbox components.
• Access: High difficulty. The area can be grimy, partially hidden by hoses/components, and poorly lit—cleaning is often required before you can read it.
• Note: If you can’t clearly see a stamped VIN on the firewall, rely on the B-pillar label and the floor stamp as your primary physical identifiers.
• Tip: After wiping the metal, use High Contrast scanning and use the VIN scanner to decipher faint stampings without guessing worn characters.
