Where is the VIN number in Hyundai i20 II (GB)?

This guide covers the VIN number locations for the Hyundai i20 II (GB) produced between 2014–2017, with the same checks I use in the workshop when confirming a vehicle’s identity.

Chassis Number Locations

Passenger floor area (stamped chassis number)

• Where to look: Slide the front passenger seat backward. Locate the pre-cut flap in the carpet under the seat and lift it. The VIN is stamped into the metal floor pan/cross-member.
• Access: Expect shadows and low light under the seat; you’ll need to bend down and hold the carpet flap open (it can be tight or slightly frayed).
• Note: The inspected car is LHD; this stamped floor VIN is shown on the front passenger-side floor area in the video. If you can’t find it there, check the opposite front footwell floor as well.
• Tip: Because it’s dark and awkward to hold the flap open, use the flashlight and OCR to scan the VIN directly with your phone instead of trying to read it at an angle.

B-pillar / door jamb VIN sticker (type label)

• Where to look: Open the front door and inspect the B-pillar/door jamb area for the factory sticker (often black/silver) listing the VIN plus vehicle/weight info.
• Access: Usually easy access and good visibility, but older stickers can fade, peel, or get damaged.
• Note: On many Hyundai models this label is commonly on the driver-side B-pillar/door edge, but some EU-spec cars may place it on the other side—check both front door jambs.
• Tip: For faded print, use the free VIN reader with OCR to capture the characters cleanly without misreading similar letters/numbers.

Lower windshield (dashboard VIN plate)

• Where to look: Stand outside the car and look through the bottom corner of the windshield on the driver’s side, where the VIN is visible through the glass.
• Access: No tools needed, but reflections/glare on the windshield can make it hard to read or photograph.
• Note: This is typically the quickest “walk-up” VIN check for an LHD i20.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting
