Where is the VIN number in Renault Clio IV (2012-2018)?

This guide shows you where to find the VIN (vehicle identification number) on the Renault Clio IV produced between 2012 and 2018, including the quick-to-check glass and door-label locations plus the harder “stamped in metal” backup locations.

Chassis Number Locations

1) Windshield (dashboard corner)

• Where to look: From outside the car, look through the windshield at the lower corner on the driver’s side. The VIN sits in a small cutout in the black ceramic border at the base of the glass.
• Access: Easy to spot, but glare/reflections on the windshield can block your view.
• Note: This is a standard “public VIN” location on Clio IV.

• Where to look: In the engine bay, find the right-hand suspension turret / inner wing (viewed from the front of the car). The VIN is stamped into the metal but is seen through a specific rectangular cutout/window in the plastic trim/cowl near the shock tower.
• Access: Moderate to high difficulty—recessed under trim, often shadowed and dusty, and the cutout restricts your camera angle.
• Note: Don’t start ripping the whole plastic cover off—look for the small viewing window first.
• Tip: If dirt and shadows hide the characters, wipe the area and capture it using High-Contrast AI scanning so faint stampings are easier to decode.

4) Boot/trunk floor stamped VIN (under carpet/false floor)

• Where to look: Open the trunk and lift the main carpet/false floor. Check the bare metal floor pan near the spare tire well/rear structure for the stamped/dotted VIN.
• Access: Medium—requires clearing cargo and lifting trim; lighting is usually poor inside the trunk.
• Note: If you’re verifying identity, this stamped VIN is a strong cross-check against the glass and the door label.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting
