Where is the VIN in the Volvo XC60?

This guide shows the VIN (chassis number) locations on the Volvo XC60 II, produced between 2018–2021, including the easy-to-scan label and the hidden chassis stamp under the carpet.

Chassis Number Locations

B-pillar (Door Jamb) VIN Label

• Where to look: Open the front passenger door (typical for LHD) and look on the lower section of the B-pillar (the post between front and rear doors). You’ll see a black sticker/label with the VIN plus weight ratings/paint codes.
• Access: Easy access—just open the door. If the label is dusty, wipe it clean so the characters/barcode are sharp.
• Note: The example video is RHD, so the label is shown on the passenger side for that vehicle; on LHD (EU/US) it’s commonly on the front passenger-side door jamb, but check the other side if it’s missing.
• Tip: If the sticker is at an awkward angle, scan the VIN with your phone camera to avoid misreading similar characters (like 8/B or 5/S).

Floor VIN Stamp (Under Front Seat / Carpet Flap)

• Where to look: On the floor pan under the front seat, the VIN is stamped into the metal chassis cross-member. There’s a pre-cut carpet flap (with foam backing) you must lift to expose the stamped metal.
• Access: Slide the seat to improve working room, then pry/lift the carpet flap and aim a light into the recess. Expect dust/grit around the edges.
• Note: Don’t rely on “driver side” wording here—this stamp is commonly on the right-hand floor rail. For LHD cars that often means passenger side, but if you don’t find it there, check the opposite side as well.
• Tip: This spot is naturally dark under the seat—use ScanVin’s flashlight + OCR scan so you don’t have to contort yourself and manually write down the characters.

Windshield VIN Plate (Dashboard)

• Where to look: At the very bottom corner of the windshield, where the glass meets the dashboard. You read it from outside the car looking in.
• Access: No tools—just stand outside and look through the glass. Move the wiper blades or clear debris if they block the plate.
• Note: The video shows an RHD vehicle where the visible plate appears on the passenger side for that market; placement can vary by regulation, so check both lower corners if needed.
• Tip: Windshield glare is the main problem—use the VIN scanner to capture it instantly at an angle that avoids reflections instead of re-typing what you think you saw.

Chassis Number Locations

Infotainment Screen (My Car Menu)

• Where to look: Center screen path: My Car → Settings → Information → VIN number.
• Access: Easy, but the battery/ignition must be on; occasional screen glare can interfere.
• Note: Same process for LHD and RHD vehicles.
• Tip: If glare or screen flicker makes it annoying to copy, scan the VIN directly with your phone so you don’t mistype a single character.

Dashboard / Windshield (Driver-side lower corner)

• Where to look: Look through the windshield at the lower corner on the driver’s side—a white VIN plate with black text sitting under the glass.
• Access: Usually easy to see, but reflections and glare off the windshield can block the camera view.
• Note: Standard public VIN display location on XC60 I.
• Tip: When glare washes out the plate, capture it instantly with the VIN scanner by tilting the phone slightly and letting OCR grab the characters before reflections move.

Passenger-side B-Pillar / Door Jamb Sticker

• Where to look: Open the front passenger door and check the B-pillar (between the front and rear doors) for a black sticker with vehicle weights and the VIN in light text.
• Access: Easy—vertical surface, typically clean, and usually has good contrast for scanning.
• Note: This is a common Volvo label location and a strong secondary match to compare against the windshield/floor VIN.
• Tip: If you’re cross-checking VINs quickly at the roadside, use the free VIN reader to scan the sticker instead of manually keying it in.

Floor / Under Front Seat (Stamped into chassis beam under carpet flap)

• Where to look: Slide the front seat all the way back and find the pre-cut carpet flap in the front footwell floor; lift the flap to reveal the VIN stamped into the chassis beam.
• Access: Moderate—often low light in the footwell; the carpet flap can be stiff; the stamping may be dusty.
• Note: This stamped VIN is on the right-hand side of the vehicle floor pan (commonly passenger side on LHD vehicles). If you don’t find it there, check the other front footwell.
• Tip: Because it’s dark and you’re working one-handed, scan it using Flashlight + OCR so you don’t have to hold the carpet up and write the VIN down at the same time.

Engine Bay / Firewall Stamp (Rear of engine bay)

• Where to look: At the rear of the engine bay on the firewall/bulkhead area, slightly toward the passenger side; you may need to lift/push aside a rubber weather strip or cowl trim to see the stamping.
• Access: Hard—tight space, poor lighting, and trim/hoses can block a straight camera angle.
• Note: Best used as a verification point when matching all VINs on the car.
• Tip: When you’re wedged over the engine and can’t comfortably read it, scan it directly to avoid transcription errors from an awkward viewing angle.

Engine Block Stamp (Last resort)

• Where to look: Stamped on a machined flat surface of the engine block (exact side varies by engine variant).
• Access: Very hard—often hidden, grimy, and sometimes only visible with components moved or from below.
• Note: Not recommended for regular owners—this is more of a workshop-level check.
• Tip: If the stamping is faint/dirty and you must confirm it, use High Contrast AI Mode to decipher the characters after wiping the area clean.
