Chassis Number Locations

B-Pillar (Door Jam) VIN Sticker

• Where to look: Open the front door and inspect the lower section of the B-pillar (the pillar between the front and rear doors). You’ll find a black or silver sticker label with the VIN and vehicle data.
• Access: Easiest access—no tools. Just open the door and read/scan the label.
• Note: On LHD cars it’s typically on the passenger-side B-pillar; on RHD cars it’s typically on the driver-side B-pillar.
• Tip: If you want to avoid typing errors from small characters, scan it directly with your phone while holding the camera steady—this label is usually the cleanest source.

Windshield (Dashboard VIN Plate)

• Where to look: From outside the car, check the lower corner of the windshield on the left side (vehicle left), in a small rectangular window within the black area at the base of the glass.
• Access: Very quick to check, but visibility can be affected by glare, reflections, or water droplets on the glass.
• Note: This is a standard “look-through-glass” VIN display.
• Tip: When glare or rain makes characters hard to read, capture it instantly with the VIN scanner to reduce transcription mistakes.

Engine Bay (Stamped VIN on Strut Tower)

• Where to look: Open the hood and go to the right-side suspension strut tower (vehicle right). The VIN is stamped into the metal on top of the turret, running parallel to the fender.
• Access: Moderate effort. Engine bay areas collect dust/grime, and the stamp may be partially covered by rubber weather strip or plastic trim/cowling—you may need to pull the trim back to see the full sequence.
• Note: The stamp stays on the right side of the vehicle on both LHD and RHD cars (it does not “swap” with steering position).
• Tip: If the stamping is dirty or faint, wipe it and then use High Contrast scanning to read the characters instead of trying to decipher them at an awkward angle.

Trunk / Boot Floor Data Sticker

• Where to look: Open the trunk and lift the floor mat / boot floor panel. Look for a white paper data sticker on the metal floor, typically near the spare wheel well (often to the left of it). This includes the VIN plus paint/option codes.
• Access: High effort. You may need to empty the trunk and lift the carpet. The sticker is paper and can be worn or damaged from cargo.
• Note: Useful as a cross-check and for option/paint info—less useful for quick roadside verification.
• Tip: Because it’s inconvenient to hold a light and write it down in the trunk, scan the sticker with your phone to grab the VIN fast and cleanly.
