Chassis Number Locations

Engine Bay – Stamped VIN on Shock Tower (under rain tray/scuttle)

• Where to look: Open the bonnet and go to the right-side shock tower (passenger side on LHD, driver side on RHD). The VIN is stamped into the metal on the shock tower extension, but it’s hidden beneath the plastic rain tray/scuttle panel and a rubber weather seal.
• Access: High difficulty. Locate the small rubber weather strip/seal along the side, pull it back, then lift the plastic cowling/rain tray to reveal the stamped metal underneath. Expect dust/grime—wipe the area so the characters pop.
• Note: Left/right is vehicle-right (direction of travel). On most LHD Tiguans this is the passenger side of the engine bay.

• Note: Written for LHD: this is typically at the driver-side base of the windshield.

• Access: Low difficulty. Usually high-contrast and easy to scan, but stickers can be scuffed, peeled, or repainted over on older vehicles.
• Note: On LHD vehicles this is normally on the left/driver side B-pillar.

• Access: Medium difficulty. You may need to unload the boot and lift the floor panel. The sticker is paper and can tear, fade, or go missing after repairs.
• Note: Treat this as a backup location if the windshield plate or door sticker is damaged.
